Rewiring the Mind/Body/Brain for What's Possible
Nobody ever became fit by working out once.
The same is true for leadership, how you move through the world, and how you show up for yourself and others.
As much as you might disagree, the world doesn't pick your direction. YOU do.
You pick your direction (because even not picking is picking), and whatever direction you repeat in terms of your thoughts, actions, emotions, level of annoyance, habits, etc.. becomes a cycle.
Your personal and professional life is a loop and a cycle - a repeating pattern of what's familiar - and whether it's great or not so great, you're addicted to it because it's KNOWN.
Your brain worships patterns and what's known because to the brain, familiar is equated with survival. Familiar isn't necessarily good for you however - in fact often times familiar is not good. Gratitude, growth, change, curiosity, evolution and expansion are good for us. These are the conditions that light us up and help us make things happen.
Everything moves in cycles - including you. Cycles are habits and habits can be hard to break. They are far easier to replace however, and that’s good news.
Replacing negative habits requires shifting from passive, downer, autopilot behaviors to deliberate, positive, goal-oriented action. This work is about updating the mind, the body, and the brain for appreciation and strength and possibility.
Again, nobody ever got in shape by working out once.
You have to show up again and again until a new cycle begins to take over, and doing or being X becomes part of your Identity - just something you do and are.
Small repeated actions become Identity. Be aware and particular with your patterns, cycles, and what for you have become consistent practices. Be deliberate. Choose and act on where you're heading.
Now — Go DO Something
You’ve been sitting on something:
A trip you haven’t booked.
A conversation you’ve been avoiding.
An opportunity that scares you enough that’s it’s probably worth taking.
That discomfort you feel? That’s the signal, that’s the opportunity - not the warning.
You don’t need more time, more certainty, or an optimal perfect plan. You need to decide and act, and know this: Real decisions are followed by action.
No Action = No Decision.
Pick the habit that no longer serves positively and bit by bit, replace it with something better and new. Pick the positive something that’s been living in the back of your mind and take a concrete step toward that something today — not next week or when conditions are ideal. Today.
Rewire your mind, body and brain for what’s positive and possible, and ACT. You’re driving - you choose.
